What do we expect on the 23rd?

So Apple have sent out invitations for their event on the 23rd of this month. Everyone expects an iPad Mini. In fact, there may be complaints if one doesn't show up. But what would you like to see?

As I've said before I'm still not 100% sold on the idea of an iPad Mini. I can't place it as yet, except in terms of price. I think that if Apple want to compete against Android tablets then this may be a good strategy. But I have to ask myself why it is they'd want to compete on price? It isn't something they've done before, in fact, quite the opposite. So, I return to my question. What's it all about?

I think it's pretty clear: Apple doesn't want a repeat of Windows demolishing the Mac in the 90s. Android devices have already incorporated most of what makes smartphones and tablets attractive at better prices. They shipment numbers for smartphones speak for themselves: Android is #1. The numbers seems to be following the same path with regard to tablets and perhaps even worse with Amazon playing a big role.

Apple is simply strategizing where it can.

A lot of gorgeous no new functionality , like a new brighter screen, a new fantastic connector with hmm nothing but new ash smaller, a faster processor for hmm dunno, a faster network when not connected to wifi so one pour cent of the time, new app format specially design for nano iPad incompatible with iPhone and iPad Classic, so you can buy the same 3 times or even 4 times if you have a mac!!

I know I troll a lot but I fear I'll be close to the truth.

Still hoping I'll be wrong as Android devices are in my opinion awful especially for music.
so no real alternative for now

If an Ipad is 500 us, and and Ipod is 300 us, Ipad mini has to be 400. Might was well spend the 100 and get the full Ipad. Don't see how this can make too many sales.

Apple has since the 90's taken cost into consideration. At that time the difference between a Apple computer and what one might cobble togeather from computer shopper magazine was a constant complaint. Nowdays they are reasonably close to what you would play for a higher end sony or dell.

The middle form factor of pad was not the first adopted by Apple which wanted a hardbook sized page. It now dominates that market space as it does in the ipod touch arena (modestly priced by anyones standards). The 7 inch pad that it does not compete in would be considered the paperback size. It obviously allows its competetors to offer a cheaper product due to the cost difference involved in the smaller screen so that it can be a point of entry for thier products.

Apple wants to be in the classroom and the 7 inch seems to be a good price for parents to give thier kids for school. As well the iphone is a bit smallish to read a book on the go and the fit into a bag easly. A presence in the space seems a good idea and no doubt the price due to smaller screen size will be competitive but more than the subsidized give away pads that some content providers are bringing into the market place expecting to make thier money on the back end from content.

I would like it as it would be a good middle ground especially for bringing to gigs if it had some horsepower. To run some of the ipad only apps like then nice Nord midi sequencer.

Apple has to release a 7inch tablet since the Kindle Fire is the second biggest tablet device (50% of all sales of Android tablets are Fires in the US) and Apple needs to curb that success.
