So I did it. Did you?

I realised that there is no way now to easily step off the Apple machine if you're into mobile music. It's where all the great apps are, and I can't see that changing for quite a while now.

So I decided that as I have no real choice but to stick with iOS, I may as well go for a new iPhone 5.

How about you?

Yep - first thing yesterday morning. Faster processor, better speakers and mics, + 12.5% more screen real estate made it a no-brainier.

it's a shame that the most successful platform has to be the most controlling one...

Me too, but I'm trying to keep it on the down-low so don't tell anybody.

Ive had my 4s for a bit over a year, before that I had the 3GS for 2. There's no compelling reason to upgrade-- and what would I do for a midi interface with the new dock connector?

It's a shame really, but I agree. Despite Google announcing they would get latency down to acceptable timings in Jelly Bean, I haven't seen much proof of it happening, and even if that would happen in the near future, it will take a bit for developers to really move to android. Most of them have been scared off by bad experiences in the past.
One has to mention another thing though, Apple may be the most controlling of the bunch (and I am a big enemy of such a market strategy) but let's be frank, Google is not really the "light side of the force" either. We're talking about two multinationa corporations that in the end don't give a shit about people and just invest money to make more money... so in the end it's just up to the us to use what they make and don't let ourseves become slaves of their stupid business models. So it's all about using the one that works best...

Absolutely not. Under no circumstances. There is no way on Earth that I am getting an iPhone 5.

'Cos I can't afford one :o)

Gregor I think they are putting Out a bulky stupid converter to ensure that our old gear still talks o the phone ( don't get me wrong I am a apple fanboy just that I hate the iphone 5, I might take it better if it's called iphone 4s pro or something)

For me the compelled to get audio routing as that is no supported on the iPhone 4. Android pads are good and coming along nice to have around for Netflix and Angry Bird play. Mix tiki in android is great too.

Looking forward to windows tablets.

Hopefully USB 2 connector on new iPhone will mean easier access to the phone and or midi. Lots of news today also that the new phone is a custom arm chip and 1 gig of memory.

Besides I need that extra row of icons on the 5 to keep all my music apps on two pages. Now that palm sounds is up again I seem to be buying more apps again.

I have the 4s and upgrade every 2 years when my contract with ATT expires so my next iPhone will probably be the 6s. So to ease the pain of not being able to buy the greatest and latest iPhone .... I'm going to get the Nexus 7 and get all the books and movies off my iPad and free up space.
